Giant axonal neuropathy is a rare medical condition that affects the nervous system. In children with this condition, the protein that attaches to neurons to remove unnecessary messages from the nervous system does not function correctly. Instead, it piles up inside the nerves and causes them to grow larger, eventually cutting off all nervous functions. With only 70 known cases in the world, the condition is incredibly difficult to diagnose and manage. Christa shared how the medical condition affected her family's lives and how it took a year of sending blood work to the United States to get a diagnosis. The rarity of the condition meant that nobody in Canada had seen it before, making it even more challenging to manage. Despite the challenges, Christa's entrepreneurial spirit helped her navigate the situation. She found a way to balance being a parent and a business owner, teeter-tottering between the two. She admits that she may never have it completely figured out, but that's just the nature of life.
